If you love art & history Berlin is the place to go.
So much history revolves around this one famous city, that you will easily find a big selection of historic sites to explore.
*A quick historical note*
In 13th century Berlin was a humble settlement of little importance, but after entering the Hanseatic League, it became the seat of the electors of Brandenburg and by 18th century was already known as the most important political and cultural center. Consequently it became the capital of the German Empire in 19th century. A century later Berlin was devastated during World War Two.... during war's period as well as during the following Cold War the city was a vital pressure point in many ideological struggles what was commonly expressed in the emotional art of the world famous artists...
*My TOP 3 ARTSY-HISTORICAL MUST-SEE in Berlin:*
1. Jewish Museum - one the most stunning museum I've ever seen in my life...left me every emotional. See for yourself why.
2. The Brandenburg Gate - built in a Romanesque style similar to th e gateway to the Acropolis in Athens, supposed to be a symbol of peace, but adopted a different meaning throughout the history: the Nazis saw it as a symbol of their party and during the Cold War it fell into the no-man’s land within the Berlin Wall, being a focal point of politically charged rallies and speeches (including American Presidents John F Kennedy and Ronald Reagan). Best to see from the double-decker bus!
3. The Berlin Wall - an 87 mile long concrete barrier between East and West Berlin, probably the most important symbol of the Cold War and so-called ‘Iron Curtain’ between eastern and western Europe. An obvious classic.
